本篇選用的是《2013年星火滿分聽力》lecture的模擬篇。
After the First World War, the American government even claimed that all the immigrants, who did not speak English as their native language,to completely abandon their national language once they settled in the United States. So the American blacks learned to speak a form of English that sounded more like the Standard English as a way to advance them socially and economically. Many southern ,aristocratic boys were sent to school in England to learn "proper English" so that they would not embarrass their families by speaking Plantation Croele. Some Blacks feel that they have to lose their black accents and "talk" white in order to get good jobs and increase their social standing. With assimilation,immigrants lose their original cultural and often linguistic identity and so do their children. Immigrants who fled oppression from a country devastated by war were historically adaptable to abandoning their heritage once they had settled in a new country.
第一次世界大戰(zhàn)后，美國政府甚至聲稱，所有的不以英語作為母語的外來移民，一旦他們定居在美國，就要完全拋棄他們的國家的語言。 因此，美國黑人開始說一種聽起來更像標(biāo)準(zhǔn)英語的英語以提高他們的社會和經(jīng)濟(jì)地位。很多南部的貴族的男孩子被送到英國的學(xué)校學(xué)習(xí)標(biāo)準(zhǔn)英語，以防止他們因為使用種植園的語言而讓他們的家族蒙羞。有些黑人覺得他們必須摒棄他們的黑人口音和，并且以白人的口吻交流，以獲得良好的就業(yè)機(jī)會，提高他們的社會地位。 隨著語言的同化，外來移民逐漸失去了原有的文化（通常是語言特性，他們的孩子也是），那些為了逃離一個飽受戰(zhàn)爭蹂躪的國家的壓迫而出逃的移民，逐漸習(xí)慣了一旦他們定居在一個新的國家就放棄他們的這些遺產(chǎn)。
