Take a good look at this guy, and take a guess who's he related to. His father is the subject of all headline news today. The name is Shinawatra, the only son of the Thai Prime Minister, or should I say, former or outgoing PM?

注釋:subject - 對象;the subject of one's affection: 愛慕的對象

One might say he's a trouble maker for the family but he became a billionaire when the father transferred all family fortune before assuming office. He's an excellent photographer in his own right and I even went to his photo exhibition in Beijing in 2004.

注釋:in one's own right - 依靠自身的能力

Who would have thought back then, that Shinawatra would end up like this? I couldn't help wondering what Thailand is like now, through his lens? What's his father like now in his eyes?

For all journalists, today is a big day, for many of them to prove how capable and efficient they are. Being an anchorman or newsman is a lot like being a pilot. Most of the time, it's business as usual, you almost think there's an auto pilot button that you can press and things will go smoothly by themselves. The only reason there have to be pilots in the cockpit is for emergency situations. For us, it's breaking news. It's breaking news that singles out good news people from mediocre ones.

Am sad to know about the coup but also, my journalistic instincts/habits led me to probe further. As an interviewer, I've had the privilege to get really close with some of the world's most powerful and influential leaders, and even interact with them in front of the camera. Therefore, when we watch news like that, it's not as distant as it might seems to people of other professions. It's like something happening around you, to someone you know well, you met. It just makes me feel particularly sad when somethings bad happens to them.

The Japanese people also had a new PM to be today. He's only 52 years young and is still a mystery to many. Koizumi was the first Japanes policitian to turn politics into a show. Would Abe Shinzo capable of the same? Would his diplomacy be better? Would he handle sensitive issues with honesty, wisdom and statesmanship?

What a day, someone's forced down, someone's about to step up. All on this part of the world where we Asians call home.

注釋:someone's forced down, someone's about to step up - 結(jié)構(gòu)對應(yīng)、簡潔有力的一個句子,寫作中可以借鑒

Much remains to be seen.
