ever，never等詞放在句末表示強調(diào)。

這不是件容易的差事，但我希望他能做到。

我擔(dān)心我的努力全白費了。

in vain：努力白費，徒勞。舉例：

太過分還可以用cross the line來表示，比如：

最后的底線是下周二。
