The Australia Pavilion celebrated the 100-day countdown to the opening of the 2010 World Expo by welcoming Chinese media to tour the near-completed building on the eve of the milestone.
"The 100-day countdown is a very important milestone for the World Expo organizers, and also for Australia," said Australia's commissioner general, Lyndall Sachs.
"As the largest Expo the world has ever seen, the Expo Bureau has had an ambitious program of work to deliver, and it is a credit to the organizers that so much has been achieved to date,” she said.
She was delighted that Australia has also made great progress, consistently leading the way in construction. It is the first overseas self-built pavilion to be illuminated following the China Pavilion.
In February, work on the foundations was concluded, and in May, Australia announced the main structure was completed, marking two "firsts" among overseas self-built pavilions at the Expo.
"Our pavilion in Shanghai is Australia's largest investment in a World Expo, and demonstrates our strong commitment to helping to make this historic event a great success for the people of Shanghai, China and Australia," Sachs noted.
