A new year means a chance to leave some of the tired words and phrases of 2009 in the past. At least that's the theory of the wordsmiths at Lake Superior State University, who released their 35th annual List of Words Banished from the Queen's English for Mis-use, Over-use and General Uselessness.

新年意味著摒棄陳詞濫調(diào)。至少美國(guó)密歇根州州立蘇必利爾湖大學(xué)的“字匠”們是這么認(rèn)為的。他們發(fā)布了第三十五份年度標(biāo)準(zhǔn)英語(yǔ)中被禁用的誤用、濫用、無用詞語(yǔ)清單。

SHOVEL-READY
萬(wàn)事俱備，只欠東風(fēng)

"Apparently, the generally accepted definition of this phrase is to imply that a project has been completely designed and all that is left to do is to implement it...however, when something dies, it, too, is shovel-ready for burial and so I get confused about the meaning. ”

“顯然這個(gè)詞最為普遍接受的意思，是形容一個(gè)策劃完畢、等待實(shí)施的計(jì)劃。不過也可以用來形容什么東西死了，等待入殮，所以我被搞糊涂了?！?/div>

"I just saw it in tandem with 'cyber-ready' and nearly choked on my coffee. It's starting the '-ready' jargon. Makes me 'vacation-ready.'"

“我看到這個(gè)詞和cyber-ready放在一起時(shí)，當(dāng)場(chǎng)就噴了。后綴ready的用法開始流行，那我能不能說我已經(jīng)vacation-ready了？”


TRANSPARENT/TRANSPARENCY
透明/透明化

"In the lexicon of the political arena, this word is supposed to mean obvious or easily understood. In reality, political transparency is more invisible than obvious!"

“政治詞典里這個(gè)詞的解釋是：顯而易見或明白如話。事實(shí)上，政治透明化壓根就不透明！”


"I just don't see it."

"哪透了？我沒看到?！?/div>

沙皇

Long used by the media as a metaphor for positions of high authority, including “baseball czar”

媒體常用這個(gè)詞來指代位高權(quán)重的人，包括“棒球沙皇”。

"We have appointed a czar of such-and-such; clearly that's better than a 'leader,' 'coordinator' or 'director'! "

“我們把形形色色的人都冠以‘沙皇’的稱號(hào)，顯然這比‘領(lǐng)導(dǎo)者’、‘協(xié)調(diào)者’或‘主任’要好聽！”

What might otherwise be known as 'a lesson.' "This phrase is used to describe everything from potty-training to politics. It's time to vote it out!"

IN THESE ECONOMIC TIMES…
在當(dāng)今經(jīng)濟(jì)狀況下……

Overused for everything from trying to market products as inexpensive to simply explaining any and all behavior during the recession."

The LSSU Word Banishment Committee held out hope that folks would want to Obama-ban Obama-structions, but were surprised that no one Obama-nominated any, such as these compiled by the Oxford Dictionary in 2009: Obamanomics, Obamanation, Obamacare, Obamalicious, Obamaland….We say Obamanough already.

密歇根州州立蘇必利爾湖大學(xué)詞語(yǔ)封殺委員會(huì)指望人們會(huì)“奧氏”封殺“奧氏”詞組，但驚訝地發(fā)現(xiàn)居然沒有一個(gè)“奧氏”提名，比如09年收入牛津字典的Obamanomics, Obamanation,Obamacare, Obamalicious, Obamaland……我們說，奧巴馬可以打住了。
