Xia Meng, a prominent Hong Kong actress and film producer, dies early Thursday morning at 83.

Xia, born Yang Meng in 1933 in Shanghai, China, moved with her family to Hong Kong in 1947. In 1949, she was chosen to play the leading role in the English language production of Saint Joan.
夏夢(mèng)1933年出生于中國(guó)上海，1947年隨家人遷居香港。1949年，夏夢(mèng)出演英語(yǔ)話劇《圣女貞德》，并擔(dān)任主角。

Xia Meng joined The Great Wall Studio in 1951 and was given her first role as the title character in Pingqian Li's Jin hun ji (1951) (A Night-Time Wife), rocketed to stardom in her debut. The comedy was a hit later, stands out as a genuine classic of Hong Kong cinema. Many other hits followed. There was the tragic of Ri cu (1956) (Sunrise), and, at her best, as the virtuous widow in Xin gua (1956) (A Widow's Tears) (both 1956), and perhaps most remarkably, her gender-bending turn as a man masquerading as a woman in the all-female opera comedy Wong lao hu qiang qin (1960) (The Bride Hunter).
1951年，她加入長(zhǎng)城影業(yè)公司，在李倩萍執(zhí)導(dǎo)的《禁婚記》（英文名：A Night-Time Wife）中首次出演，這是她的熒幕處女作。該劇播出后獲得了極大的成功，成為香港電影永恒的經(jīng)典。其它影片紛紛效仿。1956夏夢(mèng)出演悲劇片《日出》（英文名：Sunrise），代表作《新寡》（1956）（英文名：A Widow's Tears），最經(jīng)典,讓人印象深刻的是1960年她在全部由女班出演的戲曲電影《王老虎搶親》（英文名: The Bride Hunter）中飾演男性角色，繼而男扮女裝搶親的故事。

注：夏夢(mèng)曾與越劇電影《紅樓夢(mèng)》的導(dǎo)演岑范有一段戀愛(ài)，但最終未能攜手走進(jìn)婚姻殿堂，岑范也終身不娶。
她是金庸的夢(mèng)中情人，也是《神雕俠侶》小龍女的原型。

Xia Meng's grace, talent, and beauty has made her the prima donna of Hong Kong's left-wing Mandarin movie scene, and also one of the Chinese-cinemas brightest movie stars in 1950s-1960s.
夏夢(mèng)舉止優(yōu)雅,相貌端莊清麗，思維聰慧，她是香港左翼電影的最具代表人物，也是二十世紀(jì)五六十年代最閃耀的明星。
