I have to admit something: I am an adamant journaler. Not only is it therapeutic for me, but it's also a great way to look back and see how much I've learned, grown, and evolved over the years. Eventually I realized I could continue this love of journaling when I traveled.

Travel journaling began for me in 2009, when I went to Europe for the first time. So here's how it works: you take what you find (listed below) and literally GLUE it into your journal as you go, and then write about the events of the day around the items. Yes, it's that easy! Here is how your journal may look:

What to add to your travel journal:

Plane tickets
機票

Event entry tickets

Train and bus tickets

Business cards of people or places

Food and souvenir receipts

Visa documents

Postcards you purchase along the way to remember a specific location

Anything and everything that can be glued on paper!

It may sound daunting, but taking time out of your trip to sit down at a cafe, glue stick, pen and journal in hand, with a cup of coffee (or glass of wine), is not as time-consuming as you may think. Most people respect the quiet time you're having.

And I promise, you will love looking back on your journal years later to remember the feeling you had when purchasing that meal, taking that tour, or visiting that historic site. It really is magical. I consider my journals some of my most priceless possessions. Now remember to grab that glue stick before you go!
