The last few months have been pretty tough on Jon Snow, what with his men betraying him, getting stabbed a few dozen times, dying and then being brought back by Melisandre. But the fictional character’s misery has been a blessing for Kit Harington, the actor whose portrayal of Winterfell’s most infamous bastard briefly earned him the ultimate “Get out of Jail Free” card. As he revealed to Jimmy Fallon, he even used it quite literally when he came face-to-face with a policeman.

“I’m alive,” Harington says to Fallon about the “Game of Thrones” plot revelation that recently rocked the pop culture universe. “It feels good to say that. It’s good to be alive!”

For nearly two years, Harington and the “GoT” showrunners orchestrated a carefully-planned conspiracy to conceal Jon Snow’s fate. But the actor admits that once, when he saw flashing lights in his rearview mirror, he coughed up the secret to escape arrest.

“One policeman knew,” Harington smiles. “I was driving to my parents’ house, and driving too fast — being a bit naughty; I was over the speed limit. And I saw the sirens go off behind me.

“This policeman pulls me over,” the actor continues. “He said, Look, there’s two ways we can do this: You can either follow me to the police station now and I’ll book you in, or you can tell me whether you live in the next series of ‘Game of Thrones’.”

“So I looked at him and went: ‘I’m alive next season’,” Harington explains. “And he said, ‘On your way, Lord Commander. Keep your speed down this far south of the Wall’.”

Other than that one policeman, Harington says he kept the burden of the secret from many people — although he admits, there were two that he had to tell right away. “When the writers told me, they said, ‘You can’t tell anyone — you can’t tell your mom, your dad, your brother, your friends’,” he recalls. “But I told my mom and dad right away — that’s my mom and dad!”
?/div>
