Two adorable red pandas appeared to be playing a game of cops and robbers in the snow.

One seems to tell the other one: 'Freeze, show me your hands up!' as the pair face each other in a stand-off.

The cornered red panda stands up on two back legs with his paws held up in apparent surrender.

But a moment later he makes a daring run for it, sprinting away with the other panda in hot pursuit.

The young animals play like this throughout the day, in between breaks when they either relax or search for food.

Photographer Dominic Marcoux captured these stunning photographs at Granby Zoo in Granby, Quebec, Canada.

Dominic, who works as an analyst programmer for a software design company, watched the red pandas for three hours.

The 37-year-old said: 'After eating, they started to playfully wrestle together everywhere in their habitat.

'It was very entertaining to see, and the crowd watching would go 'awww' and 'ooooh.'

'At one time, they both got up to their feet - as seen in the picture- and stood there for a few seconds, facing each other.

'Right after that, they started chasing each other, running all over the place. When they fight, they make little squeals, it's very endearing.'

He added: 'It reminded me of the game cops and robbers.'

Dominic, from Laval, Quebec, Canada, came to the zoo especially to try to photograph the animals in the snow.

He said: 'Snow was announced that day, which is why I headed over there.

'I love the falling snow in shots. Unfortunately, it did not snow all day but I was still rewarded with these shots. “

'I stayed with the red pandas for over three hours, at different spots, trying to get a good angle.
'The important thing in photography is patience and eventually the opportunities come themselves.'

He added: 'The pandas are actually pretty fast for being so small and it was challenging to capture them as they were running around.'

Dominic said that the creatures seemed to 'love' the crowd and would come close to their audience as they played.

He added: 'I have to admit, red pandas are my favourite animal and every time I'm in their presence I can feel their playfulness.

'They bring a smile and amaze everyone around them watching.

'As they stood on their feet and I took the picture, I knew I had something special.

'It's definitely one of those moments you look forward to in photography.'
