Chinese vice Premier in Tokyo for high-level economic dialogue with Japan

Chinese vice Premier Wang Qishan has arrived in Tokyo to attend the second China-Japan high-level economic dialogue scheduled for Sunday.

Wang and Japanese Foreign Minister Hirofumi Nakasone will co-chair the talks.

The two sides are set to discuss a wide range of topics including energy conservation, environmental protection, agriculture, trade and investment, information and communication, as well as disaster prevention and relief.

Chinese rescuers blast tunnel to reach miners trapped by fatal landslide

Rescuers have set off a blast in the debris of a landslide in China's Chongqing city in an effort to open a shaft to reach 27 trapped miners.

Experts are still busy surveying and revising plans for more blasts which will be needed if rescuers are to reach the workers.

Experts say the air underground will only be able to support the miners for about seven days.

So far, 72 people remain missing from the landslide.

Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao have ordered local authorities to spare no efforts in saving people who are buried in the debris though authorities warn that survival is unlikely.

Chinese vice-premier Zhang Dejiang arrived at the landslide site on Saturday to oversee the rescue efforts.
Chinese mainland reports 5 more cases of H1N1 flu virus

The Chinese mainland has reported five more cases of the H1N1 flu, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 72.

Individuals who were in close contact with the new patients have been quarantined.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong has reported one new case of the flu, raising the number of confirmed cases in the city to 33.

So far, China has not reported any deaths from the virus.
Shanghai Expo mascot 'Haibao' moved to Victoria Park

The mascot of next year's Shanghai World Expo, named Haibao, has moved to the famed Victoria Park during his extended stay in Hong Kong.

The mascot arrived in Hong Kong late last year and had been on display at Hong Kong's Kowloon Park before moving to Victoria Park in June where it will remain until November.

The Shanghai Expo will be held next year from May 1st to October 31st.

So far, about 238 countries, cities and international organizations have confirmed their participation.
