This song expresses the feeling many people have that love is predestined: lovers are two halves born separate, and they won’t feel happy and complete until they find each other, and no other person can take that place in their hearts. Then they will be reunited and love each other forever.

So, the story goes, he’s been hurting for years because he couldn’t find her. He wasn’t looking for someone to love, he was looking for his other half, and now he knows she is the one:

But he’s still a bit hesitant. He knows she is the one, but he has been hurt so much in the past that he needs time and must take things slowly. Instead of running fast into an engagement, he has to go step by step, and with every step he gets a little closer to her:

But then when he is in her company, her beauty shocks him and he feels like time stops, and he feels he can be brave and give her his love unconditionally, because he acknowledges that all his life has been a preparation for this, that everything was meant to bring him to this point when he meets her at last, now his life has a meaning:
