Thank you for your letter asking about how to prepare for a Band－６oral test．First of all，I think you should get to know something about the format and the scope of the test．An oral test usually consists of three parts：１）A Brief Introduction about Yourself；２）Talking about a Short Topic，３）Some Discussion with the Examiner．

??? Just like a western meal，the first part of an oral test is just some “salad”which is easy to deal with，while the second part is the“main course”which you need to pay full attention to．You need to make out a list of various topics such as campus life，environment protection，Olympic Games，friendship，etc．Then，you need to think of something to say about each of those topics．Don’t try to give a long lecture，just a few points on one subject．You need to express yourself clearly and your pronunciation and intonation should be acceptable．When you prepare for the topics，you can talk to your classmates，and you can also talk to yourself．You needn’t write down all the sentences and recite them．Never think in Chinese and try to translate them into English．You must learn to use idiomatic English sentence patterns and expressions in your oral presentation．As for the third part of the test，it won’t be of any difficulty if you can get through the first two parts smoothly．

??? 你好！閱讀理解試題是任何一次大型英語(yǔ)考試的重要組成部分，一般占４０％的比重。拿大學(xué)英語(yǔ)四級(jí)來說，如果閱讀理解部分拿不到２８分以上，就很難得到通過。

??? 我國(guó)大學(xué)英語(yǔ)教學(xué)大綱規(guī)定，具有較強(qiáng)的閱讀理解能力是英語(yǔ)教學(xué)的基本要求。因?yàn)閷?duì)于中國(guó)學(xué)生來說，通過閱讀英文資料獲取信息的機(jī)會(huì)遠(yuǎn)比通過聽、說獲取信息的機(jī)會(huì)多得多。

??? 到目前為止，我國(guó)許多學(xué)校的英語(yǔ)教學(xué)，其基本模式一直都是“以教師為中心，以考試為目標(biāo)”。幾乎是從小學(xué)開始，就是幾天一小考，一月一中考，半年一大考，一年一會(huì)考，三年一特大考。這種通過沒完沒了的考試來驅(qū)動(dòng)的英語(yǔ)教學(xué)，把外語(yǔ)學(xué)習(xí)的規(guī)律完全扭曲了。衡量英語(yǔ)學(xué)習(xí)好壞的標(biāo)準(zhǔn)是考試成績(jī)，而不是實(shí)際掌握的語(yǔ)言能力。數(shù)以千萬計(jì)的青少年，被迫在英語(yǔ)考試的陡峭梯級(jí)上艱難地逐級(jí)往上爬，浪費(fèi)了大量寶貴的青春時(shí)光。多數(shù)人是半途而廢，少數(shù)人爬到了“頂”，通過了托?？荚嚕踔恋玫礁叻?，可是實(shí)際的英語(yǔ)能力還是差得很，不會(huì)說，不會(huì)寫，看英語(yǔ)資料總是似懂非懂，往往是關(guān)鍵部分看不懂。至于聽的能力，就差得更遠(yuǎn)了，到了國(guó)外什么也聽不懂。一般都要經(jīng)過半年到一年時(shí)間，才能逐步克服語(yǔ)言障礙。

??? 如果我們換一種學(xué)法，把“以教師為中心”改為“以我為主，自主學(xué)習(xí)”，把“以考試為目標(biāo)”改為“以提高語(yǔ)言能力為目標(biāo)，通過考試只是一種附帶的產(chǎn)物”，你面前就會(huì)頓時(shí)出現(xiàn)一幅新境界。我在本刊前幾期回答讀者朋友提問時(shí)談到看分級(jí)讀物的問題。要提高閱讀能力，就得多讀一些文章。而閱讀分級(jí)讀物，是最合理的選擇。只有通過大量閱讀才有可能培養(yǎng)出閱讀能力。對(duì)于初學(xué)者來說，只有看自己能看得懂的東西，才會(huì)有興趣，有收獲。一開始就去啃硬骨頭，一個(gè)個(gè)生詞要去查詞典，啃到最后還是似懂非懂，只能浪費(fèi)時(shí)間，毫無益處。你大一時(shí)就考了５６分，如果從那時(shí)起，有計(jì)劃地自主學(xué)習(xí)，開始有選擇地大量閱讀分級(jí)讀物，注重提高語(yǔ)言能力，經(jīng)過一年努力，現(xiàn)在恐怕考六級(jí)都不成問題。

??? 那么，有沒有臨陣磨槍的辦法呢？有。前年我寫過一本小冊(cè)子，書名叫《教你如何學(xué)好英語(yǔ)》（世界知識(shí)出版社出版），其中第十章便是“怎樣提高考試成績(jī)？”。
