For example, if suf-ficient sky trains and underground train systems were built and effectively maintained in our major cities, then traffic on the roads would be dramatically reduced. Long-distance train and coach services should be made attractive and affordable alternatives to driving our own car for long journeys. In conclusion, I think that long-term traffic and pollution reductions would depend on educating the public to use public transport more, and on governments using public money to construct and run efficient systems.
然而讓人們改用電動車對于解決交通擁堵問題卻沒有什么幫助。要解決交通擁堵，還是要大力發(fā)展公共交通以方便更多的人出行。例如如果在大城市中有足夠多的輕軌和地鐵能夠良好地運(yùn)轉(zhuǎn)，路面上的交通壓力也就會得到很大緩解。而長途火車和長途汽車旅行也應(yīng)該做到物美價(jià)廉，讓更多的人去選擇它們而不再自駕出行。 綜上所述，我認(rèn)為從長遠(yuǎn)來看，要解決交通擁堵和減少污染，取決于教育人們更多地使用公共交通，同時還需要政府使用公共財(cái)政去建造并運(yùn)營有效的公交系統(tǒng)。
