There is no doubt that traffic and pollution from vehicles have become huge problems, both in cities and on motorways. Solving these problems is likely to need more than a simple rise in the price of petrol. While it is undeniable that private car use is one of the main causes of the increase in traffic and pollution, higher fuel costs are unlikely to limit the number of drivers for long. As this policy would also affect the cost of public transport, it would be very unpopular with everyone who needs to travel on the roads. But there are various other measures that could be implemented that would have a huge effect on these problems. To tackle the problem of pollution, cleaner fuels need to be developed. The technology is already available to produce electric cars that would be both quieter and cleaner to use. Persuading manufacturers and travelers to adopt this new technology would be a more effective strategy for improving air quality, especially in cities.
在城市與高速公路上，擁堵的交通以及車輛所產(chǎn)生的污染無(wú)疑已成為了嚴(yán)峻的問(wèn)題。要解決這些問(wèn)題，僅靠簡(jiǎn)單地提高油價(jià)很可能是不夠的。 盡管無(wú)可否認(rèn)私家車的使用是造成交通擁堵與污染加劇的主要原因之一，但高油價(jià)不太可能一勞永逸地限制司機(jī)數(shù)量。因?yàn)橛蛢r(jià)的上漲勢(shì)必也會(huì)是公共交通的成本水漲船高，而這必然會(huì)遭到那些需要經(jīng)常出行的人們的反對(duì)。然而對(duì)于這些問(wèn)題，我們也還有其他富有成效的方法可以解決。 我認(rèn)為為了解決污染問(wèn)題，需要大力發(fā)展更清潔的能源。目前我們?cè)诩夹g(shù)上已經(jīng)可以生產(chǎn)出更加節(jié)能且安靜的電動(dòng)汽車。而幫助生產(chǎn)商與出行者們逐步在生活中適應(yīng)這種新技術(shù)將會(huì)是在提高空氣質(zhì)量、特別是城市空氣質(zhì)量方面，更加有效的策略。
