背景介紹:
It is the fifth time of drinking water today. I feel a little drowned by doing this, the app which called ‘Water Your Body’, however, tells me that I haven’t finished today’s quota by far. So I force myself to drink all the left water in the bottle, for the sake of healthy.
No. I am not a self- torturer. Instead, I am a 100 per cent normal people. The reason why I do this is to change the bad habit of not drinking enough water in my daily life. And such an app does work in helping me manage that. Besides, the monthly line chart gives me a sense of controlling my life.
Just look around, hardly can our life get rid of some sorts of digital gadgets that help us manage our life. Take myself for example, I have an app called ‘Manic Timer Tracker’ for manage my time; a digital bracelet for collecting my bio-data while doing exercise; and even a sleep tracker for recording my sleep patterns. All these make my life more efficient and healthier.
Granted, not everyone will adapt themselves into such a digitised lifestyle. But there is no doubt that more and more digital gadgets will emerge into our life. And I tend to believe that an increasing number of people will accept them finally. Our daily routine and bio-data, after all, reveal much critical information of our body. Self-quantifying might bring significant changes to the medicine industry. Many potential diseases probably will be diagnosed before symptoms set in. Combining data from different aspects of our life, however, remains challenging right now, since there is still no unify standards for those devices to talk to each other. If we successfully manage that, it will be powerful for sure.
話(huà)題:
1.How do you reckon this trend of self-quantifying lifestyle? Are you one of those self-quantifiers?
2.Write anything related with this topic.
Self-quantifier: the people who monitor and analyse his/her life with the help of all sorts of gadgets.
范例1:
This trend of self-quantifying lifestyle with modern gadgets is great for people who want to achieve a certain goal. Many tasks needed to be done to achieve that goal, most of which may be unpleasant. To make matters worse, we are subject to bias. When we have done something good, we tend to believe it has a bigger impact than it really does. On the contrary, if we have made a mistake, we tend to think it causes less damage than it actually does. By keeping track of data, we get a much better understanding as to how we are progressing towards the goal.
