The Indonesian Government and rebels from Aceh Province plan to sign a peace treaty on August 15th. The agreement will end almost 30 years of fighting between the Free Aceh Movement and the government. A joint statement says the agreement will bring a peaceful and lasting settlement of the conflict in Aceh. The two sides released the statement in Helsinki, Finland following talks there. Report says the agreement covers political issues, human rights, a government pardon and security plans for Aceh. About 12,000 people have been killed in the violence since 1976.
