愛德華八世（Edward VIII，1894年6月23日－1972年5月28日），英國國王，全名愛德華·阿爾伯特·克里斯蒂安·喬治·安德魯·帕特里克·大衛(wèi)（Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David），即后來的溫莎公爵，自1936年1月20日其父喬治五世駕崩到1936年12月11日退位，為英國和英聯(lián)邦各自治領(lǐng)國王，印度皇帝，共執(zhí)政325天。他是溫莎王朝的第二位國王，也以“不愛江山愛美人”而聞名于世。

Edward VIII (born Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David, 23 June 1894 – 28 May 1972) was King of the United Kingdom, from 20 January 1936 until 11 December 1936.

Edward abdicated (resigned) from the throne, because he wanted to marry the American Wallis Simpson. Simpson had been married twice before. As King, he was Head of the Church of England, and the Church did not support divorce. After abdicating as king, he was known as His Royal Highness the Duke of Windsor. His wife was not allowed to be called "Her Royal Highness".

After his abdication, many people becamed alarmed with Edward's supposedly pro German stance with some even saying that he favoured German fascism. After the WWII The Duke and Duchess became celebrities and hosted parties and lived between Paris and New York.

In the 1960s, the Duke's health deteriorated and, as a heavy smoker from an early age had throat cancer. On 28 May 1972, the Duke died at his home in Paris, less than a month before his 78th birthday.

1936年12月11日夜，退位后的國王以愛德華王子的名義向不列顛和大英帝國的人民廣播，解釋了他退位的原因，他說“我已體會(huì)到，如果沒有我所愛的女人的支持和幫助，我將無法承擔(dān)起作為國王的重任，所以，我選擇退位”。 ???

劇情：故事取材自辛普生夫人沃利斯Wallis 生平事跡，溫莎公爵愛德華為她放棄了王位。本片將采取兩個(gè)平行時(shí)空交叉敘事的方式，一條線是溫莎公爵夫人，另一條線是由艾比·考尼什扮演的一個(gè)仰慕溫莎公爵夫人的已婚現(xiàn)代女子Wally，她自己也面臨和一個(gè)男人的感情困境。
