It was a quiet day for medals at the FINA World Championships in Barcelona on Wednesday...as the only gold on offer came in the women’s synchro solo event. China’s Huang Xuechen was looking to upend Russian Svetlana Romashina in the final...as Romashina was attempting to win her third gold medal of the 2013 championships.

Ranking second after the preliminaries, Huang Xuechen was looking to put down the performance of her life to stop the highly-favoured Russian. Huang, also looking to make a little history if she could hold on to second...as that would be the highest ever finish for a Chinese in the synchro solo. Huang was solid...but just didn’t have enough to overtake the Russian. But she did record the best finish ever for China in winning the silver medal.

The gold though, would go to Russia’s Romashina...who put an exclamation mark on her dominance in the synchronized disciplines by picking up her third gold medal of the Barcelona championships. Romashina, backing up her winning performances in the technical solo and duet with a win in the synchro solo. Spain’s Ona Carbonell took the bronze.
