背景介紹:

1. Recently, a picture has led to a heated discussion on Internet. This picture records a man’s receding hairline(后退的發(fā)際線/漸禿的前額) from his undergraduate to doctoral years. Netizens deride(調(diào)侃) that time changes everything but degree changes your haircut. This guy is a doctor of engineering but began selling fruits after graduation.

2. A special blind date was held in Wuhan University last month, attracting more than 200 single male and female postgraduates or doctoral students to join.

……
Generally speaking, higher degree can be a guarantee of people’s career. However, on the other hand, it can also be a handicap in other aspects, especially in the society which has paid more and more attention on one’s experience and practical ability.

話題:

1
How do you think of some awkward situations(窘境)encountered by people with high level of education? Is their hard work only for that diploma or the high salary in the future?

OR 2
Which will you choose between high degree and more experience?

OR 3
Tell us your feeling about their big blind date? Why do you feel like this?

范例1:

I’ve heard many times that if you want to get a Ph.D, you must prepare for being a whole “new”person and sacrifice plenty of things, your hair, your time, your sleep, your enjoyment… There's no such thing as a free lunch and one must pay the price because gains come from loss. After seeing the picture, I was not surprised, and I just sighed for the youthful days, although I indeed mocked his receding hairline. But what we should reflect on first is the higher education in China. Frankly speaking, I really disappoint at the education in universities. Faced with more and more students, schools and universities have no idea in dealing with the mental health of students, but focusing on marks, certificates and something impractical which turn out to be losing relevance to society. I think it is time to change the old style and open a new window for higher education.

范例2:

Many people who are pursuing master’s degree or doctor’s degree remain single in their late 20s, which provokes us to ask “why don’t they just go and find the other half of their life?” One reason for such circumstance may be that they have too little association with people. However, people pursuing higher education do not necessarily have to lock themselves away from the outside, burying themselves in numerous books and researches. Instead, they can attend open parties, lectures or take several days to travel, through which they have more opportunity to meet nice people and develop relationship with them. Additionally, they can refresh themselves from academic activities as well as get inspired by new ideas and insight. People socially active are believed to be smarter for they absorb new ideas quickly and are more likely to put theory into practice. So, boys and girls, meet more people. It is indeed rewarding!
