According to the twenty-four solar terms of China’s lunar calendar, today marks the 23rd solar terms, the "Lesser Cold".

The Lesser Cold marks the beginning of the coldest time of the year. It normally falls in January. Health experts are reminding the public to wear warm clothes and exercise if possible. They also say during this colder period it’s advisable to eat food that helps to keep the body warm, such as dates, oranges, beef and chicken.

China’s solar terms are made up of twenty-four time periods and climates, and were traditionally used to govern agricultural planning in ancient China, and are still widely used today.
