Greek coalition party leaders have met in Athens to discuss a further austerity measures.

The meeting came the day after Athens was rocked by massive protests and a general strike. The protest and strike demanded that the government stop cutting wages, pensions and jobs. Greek unions demand that the government recoup the money by taxing the wealthy.

Finance ministry officials said on Wednesday the government had finished drafting the proposed cuts worth 11.5 billion euros at a late night meeting on Tuesday. The programme will be presented to inspectors from the European Commission, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund, which is due to return to Athens next week.
