本片改編自大衛(wèi)·米切爾（David Mitchell）的第三部小說。這本書由六段相對(duì)獨(dú)立但又有關(guān)聯(lián)的故事構(gòu)成，從1840年一位美國人從悉尼旅行到舊金山的日記、20世紀(jì)30年代初居住在比利時(shí)的年輕作曲家、1975年卷入加利福尼亞災(zāi)難的年輕記者、當(dāng)今倫敦出版回憶錄的黑道、1984年韓國發(fā)生的故事與一個(gè)老人敘述當(dāng)時(shí)在夏威夷的青春自語為終結(jié)。該小說入圍了2004年布克獎(jiǎng)（Man Booker Prize）。

Cloud Atlas is an upcoming German-made English-language historical/science fiction film directed by Tom Tykwer and The Wachowskis. The directors wrote the screenplay based on the 2004 novel of the same name by David Mitchell. With an ensemble cast to cover the film's multiple storylines, production began in September 2011 at Studio Babelsberg in Germany. The film is scheduled to be released the 26th of October 2012.
