China and Russia’s joint naval exercises have entered their third day in the Yellow Sea.

The day began with live-fire exercises focusing on air defense, sea defense and anti-submarines. During the three-day live-fire exercises, six vessels from both countries will sail in a column. The 6-day drill involves 16 vessels and 2 submarines from the Chinese navy and 4 warships from the Russia’s Pacific Fleet, as well as 3 supply ships.

The focus is on working together to uphold regional peace, build ties between the countries’ militaries and grow cooperation in international affairs. Experts emphasized the high quality of the weaponry being used in the live-fire drills.

Yin Zhuo, military expert, said, "The vessels are mainly using missiles. However, the scope of missile is large which may lead to accidental damage of merchant ships in the surrounding area. To guarantee safety and the success of the training, we chose artillery instead. In the sea defense training, both sides are using large and medium-caliber artillery, and also anti-submarine rockets, which will make the display very high quality and enjoyable. "
