Daniel: Gunpowder, compass, the paper making, and the printing.
May: I really admire those who made such great inventions!
Daniel: May, I don't see why they are great. They are just simple things.
May: They look simple today. But they were milestones in their times.
Daniel: Milestones? May, you must be kidding.
May: Just think Bill Gates, those inventions are as important as the windows system.
Daniel: Well, I suppose the ancient inventors made a lot of money out of them.
May: No, quite the contrary.
Daniel: Why? Didn't you say that they were milestones?
May: Yes, but they went to the public without any patent protection.
Daniel: Well, their inventors were not as clever as Bill Gates.

so…that 的用法
“so …that…”句型表示“如此/這么…….以至于……”,常引導(dǎo)結(jié)果狀語(yǔ)從句?!璼o that…則表示“以便,為了”。
(1)so …that…中的so是副詞,常用句型為:
a.主語(yǔ)+謂語(yǔ)+ so + adj. /adv. +that從句
b.主語(yǔ)+謂語(yǔ)+ so + many/much/(a)few/(a)little +名詞+that從句
My brother is so young that he can't look after himself.
我弟弟太小了而不能照顧自己。
My mother was so angry that she couldn't say a word.
我媽媽如此生氣,以至于一句話也說(shuō)不出來(lái)。
This rich man has so much money that he can buy everything.
這個(gè)富人這么有錢(qián),他可以買(mǎi)一切東西。
I have so much work to do that I can't spend this weekend with you.

(2)so與that也可連起來(lái)寫(xiě),即變成:…so that…(以便/為了……),引導(dǎo)目的狀語(yǔ)從句
I got up early so that I could catch the early bus.
我起得很早為了能趕上早班車(chē)。
We must go now so that we won't be late.
我們現(xiàn)在必須要走了,以防遲到(為了不遲到)。
