For a few weeks every four years, the world focusws on Summer Olympics. But its attention is also focus on the city hosting the games. Few other activities draw as much positive attendtion to a city as holding the Olympics.

Welcoming the world
The games bring a lot of people to a host city. Beijing is expecting almost 3 million athletes, coaches and other visitors for the 2008 games. More importantly, the Olympics attract reporters that cover the games for people around the world. More than 3.9 billion people tuned into watch the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

Taking care of so many people can be a big challenge. Visitors need to be housed, fed and transported around the host city. This requires a lot planning and construction. Host cities must build news centers, athletes'villiages, hotels and restraunts. They must also expand their roads and public transportation systems. Hosting the Olympics means huge challenges - and huge expenses - for a city.
