交錯配列(Chiasmus)是指在兩個不同的并列句子中,第二個是第一個的顛倒排列 (a reversal in the order of words in two otherwise parallel phrases)。一個著名的例子是西塞羅的“吃飯是為了活著,但活著并不是為了吃飯?!保‥at to live, but not live to eat.)

交錯配列常出現(xiàn)在名言中,歷史上有很多智者名人的名言中都使用到這個語言藝術(shù)。從總統(tǒng)到思想家到作家還有草根人士,大家都在用:
