Chinglish.

In China, friends usually take turns paying the food bill at restaurants; if a couple are on a date, the boy will traditionally pay the bill. In the United States, however, there are many different ways of handling who will pay when dining out.
Among Americans, people are commonly known to go Dutch. That means when you eat out, you are expected only to pay for what you ordered and the tax and tip on what you ordered. If everyone eats about the same amount, you may simply choose to divide the bill by the number of people at the table. If some are more hungry or thirsty than others, you may ask to see the bill and have everyone calculate their individual totals. Sometimes, if you ask, the server may even be able to split the bill for you and give everyone individual receipts for their food. You can even request that some of the bill be paid by credit card and the rest be paid in cash.
When you are on a date, however, things may be a little more complicated. The boy may not always pay, especially if the girl invited the boy out to the restaurant. Sometimes, the boy may try to pay for both, but the girl will insist on paying her half. Other times, the boy may be expected to pay for the entire meal. In these situations, please be sure to bring some money on you just in case you are stuck with all, if not part, of the bill.
