Apple's iPad 2 finally debuted on the Chinese mainland this morning, after much anticipation. Now, Apple products are certainly a phenomenon anywhere in the world, but nowhere more so than here in China. By the time one store opened at 8am, a line of early-risers measured 100 meters. Our reporter Yin Hang reports from Apple's Sanlitun flagship store in Beijing.

Ordinary fans would have a hard time braving these long lines. Some die-hards have been here since last night.

Loyalty to all things Apple brought 24-year-old Hu Wei here at 6pm on Thursday. He slept on a make-shift chair. Tired as he is, more than 12 hours later, his passion has not faded.

Hu Wei, Sales manager in Beijing said "I prefer its function. Apple's technology and prices are the best of all, so I believe no one can compete with it right now."

Some Chinese fans aren't even sure why they're there. They just know they want to be part of the hype.

Ms. Ma, Freelancer in Beijing said "I got here at 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Why buy it? They all buy it, so I want to buy it."

She doesn't mind waiting 15 hours outside the store.

And first in line yesterday, was this mother-and-son duo. They waited 20 hours to get their hands on the first iPad sold in the mainland. They want the iPad, but their loyalty really lies with the creator - the one and only Steve Jobs.

Ms. Yu & Son, Beijing residents said "It's good because it's Apple. It's designed by Jobs. We love Jobs."

"Jobs made my 50-year-old mother able to master the computer so easily. We love him."

Friday's crowds were even more frenzied than the one last year for the original iPad.

One reason may be its price. The iPad 2 in China starts at 3 thousand 688 yuan, or about 560 US dollars... 300 yuan cheaper than the first generation when it went on sale last year.

But hype aside, industry insiders say the iPad 2 has few fundamental upgrades.

Still, there are big things ahead for China's tablet appetite. According to Research In China, the country's tablet computer market was about 1.73 million in 2010. It's predicted to reach 34 million by 2015.

So in China, whether you're an Apple product die-hard, a Steve Jobs loyalist, or you simply want to be part of the frenzy.... grab your iPad while it's hot. These fans certainly are.
