New Year Message by Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi

值此2011新年到來之際，我謹(jǐn)代表外交部全體同事，向關(guān)心和支持中國外交的海內(nèi)外朋友表示衷心感謝，向大家致以誠摯的新年問候。
As we are about to ring in the year 2011, let me express, on behalf of all the colleagues of the Foreign Ministry, heartfelt thanks to you, friends from home and abroad, for your care and support for China's diplomacy and extend to you sincere festive greetings.

2010年是我國“保穩(wěn)定、促發(fā)展、調(diào)結(jié)構(gòu)”的關(guān)鍵之年，也是我國進(jìn)一步深化與世界各國的互利合作，為世界和平穩(wěn)定與發(fā)展做出新貢獻(xiàn)的一年。新形勢下，我國與主要大國、周邊和發(fā)展中國家關(guān)系健康發(fā)展，深入?yún)⑴c和引導(dǎo)世界經(jīng)濟(jì)治理機(jī)制變革，以上海世博會(huì)、廣州亞運(yùn)會(huì)和亞殘運(yùn)會(huì)等為契機(jī)，積極開展首腦外交、經(jīng)濟(jì)外交、公共外交，展示了我國文明、民主、開放、進(jìn)步的形象，全方位促進(jìn)了與各國的友好合作。外交為維護(hù)國家主權(quán)、安全和發(fā)展利益發(fā)揮著日益重要的作用。
The year 2010 has been crucial to China's efforts to "maintain stability, promote development and readjust structure". It has also been a year in which we have deepened mutually beneficial cooperation with other countries and made new contribution to world peace, stability and development. We have enjoyed sound growth of relations with major countries, neighboring countries and other developing countries under the new circumstances. We have been deeply engaged in the reform of the world economic governance system and offered our guidance. We have seized the opportunities provided by the Shanghai World Expo, the Guangzhou Asian Games and Para Games to carry out summit diplomacy, economic diplomacy and public diplomacy. And by doing so, we have shown to the world a China that is culturally advanced, democratic, open and progressive, and enhanced our friendship and cooperation with other countries in all respects. Diplomacy has played an increasingly important role in safeguarding China's sovereignty, security and development interests.

2011年是新世紀(jì)第二個(gè)十年的開啟之年，也是“十二五”規(guī)劃的開局之年。我們將認(rèn)真學(xué)習(xí)貫徹黨的十七屆五中全會(huì)精神，為“十二五”規(guī)劃開好局、起好步營造良好的外部環(huán)境。我們將始終不渝走和平發(fā)展道路，始終不渝奉行互利共贏的開放戰(zhàn)略，堅(jiān)持和平發(fā)展、科學(xué)發(fā)展、合作發(fā)展、共贏發(fā)展，與國際社會(huì)一道，為促進(jìn)世界和平、穩(wěn)定與繁榮作出新的貢獻(xiàn)。
The year 2011 marks the beginning of the second decade of the 21st century. It is also the first year for implementing China's 12th Five-Year Plan. We will earnestly study and act on the spirit of the fifth plenary session of the 17th CPC Central Committee and create a sound external environment for a good start of the 12th Five-Year Plan. We will stay committed to the path of peaceful development and the win-win strategy of opening-up, pursue peaceful, scientific, cooperative and win-win development, and work with the international community to make new contribution to world peace, stability and prosperity.

新的一年，希望海內(nèi)外朋友一如既往地關(guān)心、支持中國外交，歡迎多提寶貴意見和建議。
I hope that you will continue to show care and support for China's diplomacy in the coming year. Your valuable opinions and suggestions will be more than welcome.
