Joe and Kathleen live in the same area, the communicate through the Internet, using names "NY152" and "Shopgirl". But at the same time, they are also business rivals and competitors. Kathleen owns and runs a small, family bookstore called "The Shop Around the Corner." It is a popular children's bookstore and the people that work there are knowledgeable and kind. But, just around the block, Fox is building a giant mega-bookstore called Fox & Sons Books, and he is determined to wipe out any competition. Kathleen is optimistic, knowing that her loyal customers will continue to come to her store, but the other employees of "The Shop Around the Corner" know that Fox's discounts will surely drive the buyers to his store.

They are immediately disgusted by each other, not because of appearance but because of attitude. Joe is planning on wiping out the small, family enterprise, which Kathleen finds horrible, while Joe thinks Kathleen is snotty and... a bitch.
