Visitors to the Shanghai World Expo these days have a good opportunity for bargain shopping. Many say they have come to the Expo Park just before the event ends because they want to buy discounted souvenirs.

One visitor in the Finland Pavilion has taken a fancy to a set of commemorative stamps.

"We heard that souvenirs are on sale in the lead-up to the event's closing. We particularly choose this time to visit the World Expo Park, and we wish to have some unique souvenirs."

In the shop at the Canada Pavilion, many visitors are selecting souvenirs that are discounted up to 50 percent.

One customer says he wants to choose some small gifts such as key chains for friends back home.

An employee at the Canada Pavilion says the gift shop's sales volume has seen a sharp increase since items were marked down last week. Store employees must restock the shelves once or twice a day.

But the most well-known Canadian products—maple syrup and ice wine—are not included among the discounted items which are limited to only those with Expo logos.

The staff says it would be difficult for them to ship all the left-over items back to Canada, so they are trying to sell everything before the Expo ends.

The Australia Pavilion is now providing the additional service of mail delivery for customers who buy wool products in its gift shop, no matter where the buyers live in China.

At the Expo flagship souvenir store near the China Pavilion, many items now have hand-written tags with reduced prices.

A worker at the store says business there had not been good for the past three to four days, so it's now offering discounts and gifts to promote sales. Customers can usually receive one Expo souvenir when they purchase other products.

Some foreign pavilions, including the Thailand, Laos and Myanmar pavilions, are offering 20- to 30-percent discounts on their souvenirs and special products. A bamboo musical instrument at the Vietnam Pavilion costs 20 yuan less than the original 80-yuan price.

With the six-month event drawing to a close, some Expo participants say they have already stopped ordering new stock.
