在本系列課程中，圣母院大學(xué)提出了“你會為什么而奮斗”這一話題，主要圍繞學(xué)生們和教職人員的研究、學(xué)術(shù)成就和社會行動力展開。本片采取紀(jì)錄片形式，采訪了很多不同的人。
學(xué)院介紹：
圣母大學(xué)（University of Notre Dame）創(chuàng)建于1842年，位于美國印第安那州的南灣市，是一所文理兼顧的著名私立大學(xué)。大學(xué)校風(fēng)嚴(yán)謹(jǐn)、純正，學(xué)生非常熱衷于各項(xiàng)志愿的社會工作，也有大量學(xué)生加入社會事務(wù)中心，幫助照顧老人及傷殘人員。

Heading out on patrol,it's mission first and people always.You know the greatest treasures we have are our sons and daughters.And they've been entrusted to you.In order to mitigate risks,we've been through over a year of training,we've all worked together very closely and so it makes it very easy to manage the chaos.But the enemy always has a vote and sometimes the worst happens.In that moment,the only thing,you can rely on is the vehicle to protect you.
In collaboration with the US Army Tank Automotive Research,Development and Engineering Center,Notre Dame Professor,Dr John Renaud is working to improve the blast resistance of combat vehicles.The predominant injury to the soldier in the field today is either through a blast event an IED explosion or a crash event.The key is to be able to develop new materials that are harder but at the same time lightweight.Our work at Notre Dame is focused on moving atoms around to develop materials that are really the difference between a soldier walking away from a blast event and not walking away from a blast event.
Professor Renaud's work is being used by Army engineers and scientists to better design our ground vehicles that are being used now out in the field.
Having served two tours in Iraq and losing men both in my unit and losing friends,it's never easy.That's why it means so much to me to know that my alma mater,Notre Dame,is working to keep us safe.

與美國坦克研究所工程發(fā)展中心合作的諾特丹大學(xué)教授雷諾想提高戰(zhàn)斗工具的抵抗能力。現(xiàn)在戰(zhàn)場上受到的主要傷害，要么是來自爆炸，要么是撞擊。關(guān)鍵是開發(fā)輕質(zhì)又堅(jiān)固的新材料。我們的責(zé)任是開發(fā)讓士兵遠(yuǎn)離危險(xiǎn)的新型材料，而不是一味逃離。
雷諾教授的工作成果被許多工程師和科學(xué)家運(yùn)用，設(shè)計(jì)更好的戰(zhàn)場上用的車輛。
我去伊拉克服役兩次，失去很多戰(zhàn)友和朋友，對我來說這并不好過。所以這件事對我意義重大，母校諾特丹（圣母院）致力于使我們安全。
