原文:
"Sorry," he grunted, as the tiny old man stumbled and almost fell. It was a few seconds before Mr. Dursley realized that the man was wearing a violet cloak. He didn't seem at all upset at being almost knocked to the ground. On the contrary, his face split into a wide smile and he said in a squeaky voice that made passersby stare, "Don't be sorry, my dear sir, for nothing could upset me today! Rejoice, for You-Know-Who has gone at last! Even Muggles like yourself should be celebrating, this happy, happy day!" And the old man hugged Mr. Dursley around the middle and walked off.
Mr. Dursley stood rooted to the spot. He had been hugged by a complete stranger. He also thought he had been called a Muggle, whatever that was. He was rattled. He hurried to his car and set off for home, hoping he was imagining things, which he had never hoped before, because he didn't approve of imagination.
1. grunt:
She grunted some incomprehensible reply.
For some time people had been muttering about the way she ran the department.
2. on the contrary:
小編曾經(jīng)對on the contrary 以及 in contrast with 兩個詞組糾結不已。
1)on the contrary:
I'm not ill. On the contrary, I'm very healthy.
2)in contrast with:相對比而言……(和……
In contrast to / with the city life, time seemed to pass slowly in the country.
3. set off:
They've set off on a journey round the world.(他們已經(jīng)開始環(huán)游世界。)
If you want to catch that train we'd better set off for the station immediately.(你要是想趕上那班火車,咱們就最好馬上動身去火車站。)
4. approve of sth:
I approve of your trying to earn some money, but please don't neglect your studies.(我同意你去掙一些錢,可是請不要耽誤了功課。)
