Jack and Jill作為一個經(jīng)典英文童謠,它的起源其實已不甚清楚,但一般意義上認為Jack和Jill暗指18世紀路易十六國王( Louis XVI )和他的皇后瑪麗(Marie Antoinette )。

在這首童謠中,"Jack"是腐敗邪惡國王的代名詞(路易十六),而"Jill"指他的妻子(瑪麗),"hill"指的是"top power"(最高權(quán)力),"water"指"gains from corruption"(不義之財或者好處)

后來"Jack and Jill"逐漸引申為少男少女的意思。

在英語諺語中,有很多用到"Jack and Jill","Jack"和"Jill"在英語文化中泛指男生和女生而不指具體的某個人,這已經(jīng)演變?yōu)橛⒄Z語言的約定俗成,譬如說:
