The European Union shares a pavilion with Belgium, which will hold the rotating presidency of the EU in the second half of 2010. The pavilion is in Zone C, near Spain, Poland and Monaco.

The design of a brain cell matches its theme -- "Intelligent Europe."

Today is Europe Day, as it was on May 9 in 1950 when French Foreign Affairs Minister Robert Schuman called for a united Europe, a first step in the establishment of the organization.

The day will be celebrated with a multicultural parade, consisting of 23 artistic troupes and marching bands of around 500 performers from various EU member countries. The parade will launch at 2:30pm and pass by the EU-Belgium Pavilion at 3pm.

An official launch of Europe Day will be held at Europe Square. Two concerts will follow -- pop music at Europe Square and classical music in the Expo Center Red Hall. Tickets to the concerts will be distributed on Europe Square to those who request them.

Some of the European groups in the parade will return to perform in their own national pavilions afterward.

Hungary will join the parade with the Mecsek Folk Dance Ensemble, a troupe founded in 1955. They will perform folk dances and enact an age-old tradition of south Hungary in original costume -- the procession of the bushos -- where people with horned masks chase away winter and welcome spring.

Musicians and dancers from Greece will also mark the coming of spring with a traditional celebration signifying the fertility of the land.

歐盟副主席維維亞娜·雷丁昨日召開新聞發(fā)布會(huì)公布了詳細(xì)的慶祝計(jì)劃。維維亞娜·雷丁表示，這次在上海世博會(huì)的“歐洲日”意義非凡，它是首個(gè)在歐洲大陸之外舉行的慶?；顒?dòng)，同時(shí)也是慶祝歐盟成立的基礎(chǔ)――舒曼宣言誕生六十周年，更重要的是慶祝歐盟與中國(guó)建交35周年。

音樂巡游精彩不斷

23個(gè)來自歐盟各成員國(guó)的傳統(tǒng)藝術(shù)團(tuán)會(huì)在今日下午2時(shí)半開始“多元文化盛裝巡游”，從而拉開世博園區(qū)“歐洲日”慶典的帷幕；下午4時(shí)25分，歐盟高級(jí)官員及藝術(shù)家將在世博園區(qū)歐洲廣場(chǎng)正式啟動(dòng)“歐洲日”慶典；下午5時(shí)15分，世博中心東廣場(chǎng)將舉行升旗儀式；下午6時(shí)，由歐洲知名音樂人領(lǐng)銜的流行音樂會(huì)將在歐洲廣場(chǎng)正式開始。

作為歐盟館“歐洲日”慶典活動(dòng)的重頭戲，由西班牙著名的青年女指揮家因馬·沙雷執(zhí)棒的歐盟青年交響樂團(tuán)音樂會(huì)，將于今晚8時(shí)在世博中心（紅廳）上演。這個(gè)交響樂團(tuán)由來自歐盟27個(gè)成員國(guó)的青年音樂家組成，9日將演奏肖邦、羅西尼、貝多芬、柏遼茲、老約翰·施特勞斯等多個(gè)歐洲作曲家的經(jīng)典名曲。

維維亞娜·雷丁稱，這些慶祝活動(dòng)并不只是和世博會(huì)游客一起慶祝，還是和所有的歐洲人民共同慶賀。通過這一系列的活動(dòng)，歐盟希望向中國(guó)人民展示歐盟的多元文化以及活力。

歐洲球星將助陣世博

據(jù)悉，在為期六個(gè)月的上海世博會(huì)會(huì)期中，歐盟安排了精彩的電影展示，外交、貿(mào)易、未來數(shù)字等各種話題的討論，以及與中國(guó)共同探討低碳節(jié)能等活動(dòng)。

維維亞娜·雷丁相信，除了政治與經(jīng)濟(jì)的交流之外，年輕人之間的交流具有不可忽視的作用。她透露，9月16日將會(huì)有一批歐洲著名球星前來世博會(huì)，屆時(shí)將與中國(guó)球星一起踢球、交流。
