Simon Cowell is to be honoured with an International Emmy award in recognition of his television work, organisers in the US have announced.

The impresario, best known for The X Factor and American Idol, has "reshaped 21st century television and music around the world," organisers said.

Cowell said he was "delighted" at the news, adding "I've been very lucky to make the shows I love".

He will collect his Founders award in New York on 22 November.

International Academy president Bruce Paisner said: "Simon Cowell is an entrepreneur and performer in equal measure.
