In King Gesar Square near Yushu, four teenagers are setting up makeshift camps. They're Tibetan students from a middle school in Yushu. They're helping local victims who can't read Chinese to understand the camp instructions.
Gasong Tseren is a boy whose house collapsed in the disaster. When the quake hit, he escaped from his house by sheer luck, but still suffered several injuries.
"So many people are wounded. So many people are in need. So we're working here to help them."
Lamo Qiuchu is a girl who also lost her home, but she is still busy helping others.
"My home collapsed. But fortunately my family members are all safe. It's more important to help others at this moment. We bring materials and do some translation work. We try our best to be helpful here."
These students work over 10 hours each day. They're delivering water and food, setting up camps and looking after patients. They also work as translators between locals and rescue teams.
About 400 Tibetan students are working as volunteers in the quake-hit area. When asked whether their parents worry about them, one of the students said:
"They asked me never to get close to dilapidated buildings, because after-shocks could happen at any time. But they didn't stop me working here."
