The stone age, The Iron Age. Entire epochs havebeen named for materials. So what to call thedecades ahead? The choice will be tough. Welcometo the age of superstuff. Material science -- once theleast sexy technology – is bursting with new, practical discoveries led by superconducting ceramicsthat may revolutionize electronics. Butsuperconductors are just part of the picture: from house and cars to cook pots and artificialteeth, the world will someday be made of different stuff. Exotic plastics, glass and ceramics willshape the future just as surely as have genetic engineering and computer science. The key to the new materials is researchers’ increasing ability to manipulate substances atthe molecular level. Ceramics, for example, have long been limited by their brittleness. Butby minimizing the microscopic imperfections that cause it, scientists are making far strongerceramics that still retain such qualities as hardness and heat resistance. Ford Motor Co. nowuses ceramic tools to cut steel. A firm called Kyocera has created a line of ceramic scissorsand knives that stay sharp for years and never rust or corrode. A similar transformation has overtaken plastics. High-strength polymers now formbridges, ice-skating rinks and helicopter rotors. And one new plastic that generates electricitywhen vibrated or pushed is used in electric guitars, touch sensors for robot hands and karatejackets that automatically record each punch and chop. Even plastic litter, which oncethreatened to permanently blot the landscape, has proved amenable to molecular tinkering. Several manufacturers now make biodegradable forms; some plastic six-pack rings forexample, gradually decompose when exposed to sunlight. Researchers are developing ways tomake plastics as recyclable as metal or glass. Besides, composites – plastic reinforced withfibers of graphite or other compounds – made the round-the-world flight of the voyagerpossible and have even been proved in combat: a helmet saved an infantryman’s life bydeflecting two bullets in the Grenada invasion. Some advanced materials are old standard with a new twist. The newest fiberoptic cablethat carry telephone calls cross-country are made of glass so transparent that a piece of 100 miles thick is clearer than a standard window pane. But new materials have no impact until they are made into products. And that transitioncould prove difficult, for switching requires lengthy research and investment. It can be said afirmer handle on how to move to commercialization will determine the success or failure of acountry in the near future. 1. How many new materials are mentioned in this passage? [A] Two [B] Three [C] Four [D] Five 2. Why does the author mention genetic engineering and computer science? [A] To compare them with the new materials. [B] To show the significance of the new materials on the future world. [C] To compare the new materials to them. [D] To explain his view point. 3. Why is transition difficult? [A] Because transition requires money and time. [B] Because many manufacturers are unwilling to change their equipment. [C] Because research on new materials is very difficult. [D]Because it takes 10 years. 4. Where lies success of a country in the New Age of superstuff? [A] It lies in research. [B] It lies in investment. [C] It lies in innovation. [D] It lies in application.

Food and drink 1.Do you have your breakfast at home? 2.Who cooks the meals in your family? 3.Do you often have something to drink when you have a big meal? 4.What is your favorite food? Why? 5.How many meals do you have every day? School life 1.Do you live near your school? 2.How do you ususally go to school? 3.Do you have sports after school? 4.What do you think of your school? Why? 5.Do you think you are a good student? 三、周圍的環(huán)境:environments around 1.Is there a park near your home? 2.How often do you go to the park? 3.Do you think your hometown is beautiful? 4.Who cleans your classroom every day? 5.How do you keep our environments clean? Health 1.Do you have breakfast every day? 2.Is smoking good or bad for your health? 3.What is your favorite food? 4.Do you have fruit every day? Why? 5.Do you do morning exercise every day? 1 Would you like to live in campus or live off campus? Why? I prefer to live on campus. First of all, living with someone else won't make you feel alone, it's a good way to make friends by sharing experiences, opinions and feelings with your roommates. Moreover, living with others helps in teaching you how to get along with different groups of people and how to care and offer help to others, which will benefit your communication skills. I also believe that living with roommates will make life more alive and interesting. So I'd like someone to live with me. Besides, in my opinion, it is better for freshmen living in the same dormitory as other students. Living together offers the students to communicate more often, which is especially helpful for freshmen. If the freshmen have any problem with the study, they could simply go upstairs or downstairs asking for help from their predecessors. 2 What are the changes that you would like to make to your lifestyles in order to improve your health? Frankly speaking ,I don't think I have a healthy lifestyle. With the development of technology, many young people are less concerned about their health. They rarely go to the gym because they are too preoccupied elsewhere; they do not take effective measures against stress.Personally, if I were to improve my overall well-being, I would choose to make changes to the amount of exercise I get. First of all, doing sports is a great way of staying in shape, which is vital to our health. In order to do so, some people might say that a healthy diet is the most important factor, but in reality, a healthy diet alone cannot guarantee a slim body because without doing aerobic exercises to burn off the calories we ingest, no matter how little we eat, the calories will accumulate in our body in the form of fat. As a result, exercises are indeed vital to staying in shape. Besides, not staying in shape can have disastrous outcomes. For example, obesity can add to the pressure experienced by our heart and cause cardiac diseases; obesity can also lead to high blood sugar and eventually diabetes. Second , after playing sports, people always have an extraordinary sensation of happiness and gratification, which is of great help for us to stay positive mentally. In fact, studies have shown that sports enthusiasts are far less likely to develop mental conditions such as insomnia and depression, because people usually have a great appetite and can better assimilate the nutrients ingested in the following meal. In addition, playing sports can also be an excellent stress reliever. In a nutshell, I tend to believe that so as to improve my overall health, making changes in the amount of physical exercise I get is effective.

PPP measures show where currencies should end up in the long run. For this reason, PPP is a more reliable comparison for the currencies of economies with similar levels of income.

Historically, real disposable personal income has been the dominant factor driving consumer spending. The result indicates that added personal disposable income push tourism industry forward.?
