With the prosperity of economy in modern society, what is the symbol of success has caused a heated public debate over a long period of time. Some people hold that the symbol of success should be wealth and power. They believe that the wealth and power they have are equal to their own value. At the same time, those people who are wealthy and powerful can make greater contributions to our society. Besides, nowadays people with wealth and power enjoy wide popularity.

Nevertheless, those who oppose it argue that one can be regarded as a successful person only if he has achieved his life goal, no matter whether he is rich or powerful. Nobody can say that the soldiers who have sacrificed their lives to save others had never lived a successful and meaningful life.

From my point of view, though wealth and power are important, they can never be the only standards to judge one’s success. A person is successful when he shoulders his responsibilities to make a positive difference to the society.
