1. Music idioms與“音樂”相關的表達

music to someone's ears
 某人耳中的音樂 something pleasing to hear about中聽的話

The decision to restor the old building is music to my ears.

修復這座舊建筑的決定對我來說真是福音。
face the music
 面對音樂 accept the unpleasant results of one's actions承擔后果

The boy was caught cheating in an examination and had to face the music.

在一次考試中那孩子作弊當場被抓，只能自己承擔后果。
elevator music
 電梯音樂 pleasant but boring recorded music that is played in public places 公共場合播放的背景音樂

Kevin hated going shopping in the mall. He was tired of all elevator music!

凱文討厭去購物廣場，他厭倦了那里放的背景音樂。
ring a bell
 響鈴 something that sounds familiar 讓人有印象

I've never met John Franklin, but his name rings a bell.

我從來沒見過約翰·富蘭克林，不過他的名字我好像聽過。
for a song
 為一首歌 very cheaply 非常便宜

I could buy this house for a song, because it's so ugly.

這座房子丑得賣不出去，我隨隨便便就能買下來。

2. Color idioms 與“顏色”相關的表達

Jack is an expert gardener. Everyone says he has a green thumb.

yellow-bellied
 黃色腹部的 cowardly 懦弱膽小的

Ted was called yellow-bellied after he was too scared to go on the rollarcoaster.

自從他不敢坐過山車之后，Ted就被叫做膽小鬼。
pink slip
 粉色紙條 a notice of termination of employment 解雇通知

Billy was devastated to lose his job after his boss gave him a pink slip.

比利的老板解雇了他，他因為事業(yè)而悲痛欲絕。
white elephant
 白色大象 an expensive item that is costly to maintain 昂貴而無用之物

Planners said the sports stadium would become a white elephant after the tournament was finished.

規(guī)劃者們認為錦標賽結(jié)束之后，這座體育場就會成為華而不實之物。
red tape
 紅色膠帶 a set of rules which stop progress 繁文縟節(jié)

Kate was unable to get her visa application approved due to red tape.

由于那些繁文縟節(jié)，凱特的簽證申請沒能通過。

3. Weather idioms 與“天氣”有關的表達

under the weather
 在天氣下面 feeling unwell, sad or lacking energy 感覺不舒服

Haley was feeling under the weather and didn't come to work.

海莉感覺不太舒服，沒來上班。
head in the clouds
 頭在云里 have unrealistic of impractical ideas 不切實際的想法

Neil thinks he is going to pass his exams without studying. He has had his head in the clouds!

尼爾覺得他不復習就能考試及格，真是癡人說夢。
storm in a teacup
 茶杯里的風暴 exaggerate a problem 小題大做

The couple next door are always quarrelling but it is usually a storm in a teacup.

隔壁的夫妻經(jīng)常吵架，但多數(shù)是小題大做。
face like thunder
 像雷一樣的臉 being clearly very angry or upset 滿臉怒氣

You could tell Maria was angry. She had a face like thunder!

看得出來瑪利亞很生氣。她滿臉怒氣。
chase rainbows
 追逐彩虹 try to achieve the impossible 異想天開

My parents never believed I'd make it as an actor. They thought I was just chasing rainbows.

我父母從不相信我會成為一個演員。他們都覺得我是異想天開。
