這個原名Shaffer Chimere Smith，有"R&B神童"之稱的美國創(chuàng)作型男歌手于1982年10月18日出生在阿肯色州的一個音樂世家，效仿《黑客帝國》影片里男主角的名字Neo給自己起了一個NE-YO的藝名，2006年2月28日，Ne-Yo發(fā)行了首張個人專輯《In My Own Words》。該專輯在美國發(fā)行后的第一周共售出30萬1千張，以領(lǐng)先第2名17萬張的較大優(yōu)勢奪得了當(dāng)周Billboard 200專輯榜的冠軍。

在首張專輯發(fā)行之前，Ne-Yo的歌聲還不為人所知，但作為一名出色的詞曲創(chuàng)作人，Ne-Yo這個名字已經(jīng)響徹整個美國R&B音樂圈。他曾經(jīng)為Mary J. Blige、Jamie Foxx、Ruben Suddard、Faith Evans和B2K等人創(chuàng)作過不少好歌。2004年他與Mario合作的單曲《Let Me Love You》大獲成功，在當(dāng)年曾連續(xù)9周壟斷Billboard Hot 100單曲榜。Ne-Yo的新作《Closer》也收到了很好的反響。
