Remembrance Day (榮軍紀(jì)念日) is held in the U.K. on 11 November. It is to honor those who died for their country in World War I and other wars. At 11:00 a.m. there is a two-minute slience at schools and factories across the country. On the nearest Sunday there are special church services, and the Royal Family and political leaders put poppies (罌粟花) on the Cenotaph (紀(jì)念碑) in London.

11 November is also known as Poppy Day. Why a poppy? Because in Flanders, a part of Belgium, the huge guns destroyed everything. The only things that could grow in the sea of mud (泥漿) were poppies. A famous ?poem? called In Flanders Fields (《在佛蘭德斯戰(zhàn)場(chǎng)》) described these blood-red flowers covering the soldiers’??graves?, and the poppy soon became the ?symbol? of remembrance.
