一、對(duì)年級(jí)、班級(jí)、排號(hào)、號(hào)碼等提問時(shí)，要用what，并與名詞 grade、 class、 row、 number等連用。如：What number are you？ 你是幾號(hào)呢？

二、對(duì)某事物或某人的姓名提問時(shí)，常用what。如：What is your name？ 你叫什么名字？

三、對(duì)算式的得數(shù)進(jìn)行提問時(shí)，用what。如：What is three plus four？ 三加四等于幾？

四、詢問"某物有何毛病"或"某人怎么了"，常用what。如：What's wrong with your bike？ 你的自行車出什么毛病了？

五、what與colour構(gòu)成what colour來詢問顏色。如：What colour is your coat？ 你的上衣是什么顏色？

六、與名詞number 連在一起用來詢問汽車或電話號(hào)碼等。如： What number is Mr Green's car？ 格林先生的車牌號(hào)是多少？

七、對(duì)職業(yè)進(jìn)行提問時(shí)，用what，其句式為"What + do / does + 主語(yǔ) + do？"或"What + be + 主語(yǔ)？".如：What does your father do？ 你父親是從事什么工作的？

八、詢問"某地有什么"用what，其后多接"be + 介詞短語(yǔ)"。如： What's on the wall？ 墻上有什么？

九、詢問具體的時(shí)間（幾點(diǎn)幾分），常用what time。如： What time is it？ （= What's the time？） 現(xiàn)在幾點(diǎn)了？

十、對(duì)價(jià)格提問時(shí)，用what.如： What's the price of these apples？ 這些蘋果多少錢？

十一、詢問"星期幾"時(shí)，常用 what 與 day 一起提問。如： What day is today？ （=What day is it today？） 今天星期幾？

十二、征求意見或詢問對(duì)方消息時(shí)常用 what about。如： What about something to drink？ 來點(diǎn)喝的怎么樣？

十三、用來詢問對(duì)某人或某物的看法時(shí)，用" What… think of…"，譯為就是"……認(rèn)為……怎么樣"。如：

-What do you think of the story？ 你認(rèn)為這個(gè)故事怎么樣？
-It's very interesting. 很有趣。
