英語專四常見詞辨析254：“醫(yī)生”不要“偏離”救死扶傷這個原則
diverge, deviate
這兩個動詞都有“偏離，離軌”之意。
diverge : 指從一主道分成Y形。
Don't diverge from the main path, but go straight through the wood.（不要偏離大道,一直穿過樹林。）
deviate : 強調(diào)離開思想、行動或規(guī)則的慣例。
His statements sometimes deviated from the truth.（他的陳述有時偏離事實。）
doctor, physician, surgeon, dentist
這些名詞都有“醫(yī)生”之意。
doctor : 普通用詞，泛指各科醫(yī)生，即一切有行醫(yī)資格的人。
He would not dream of becoming a doctor.（他做夢也沒想到要當大夫。）
physician : 指醫(yī)院的內(nèi)科醫(yī)生。
In case of diabetes, physicians advise against the use of sugar.（為了防止得糖尿病, 醫(yī)生告誡他們不要吃糖。）
surgeon : 指專修外科或?qū)Ｐ奕梭w某個部分的外科?？漆t(yī)生，這種醫(yī)生一般需對患者進行手術(shù)治療。
The surgeon is now operating.(外科醫(yī)生正在做手術(shù)。)
dentist : 指專門從事治牙的醫(yī)生。
I have got toothache, so I must go to a dentist.(我牙疼, 必須去看牙醫(yī)。)
